OMYFL Futsal

Futsal is a small-sided (five-a-side) form of football, with its origins in South America. The FA have introduced Futsal in England as part of their Youth Development Plan, and the OMYFL has entered a partnership with Oxford City FC to be able to bring Futsal to clubs/teams with the League as an indoor alternative to normal outdoor football games in the winter months (particularly during the times when there are numerous postponements for bad weather/waterlogged pitches).

Futsal offers many benefits for players, especially in areas such as confidence building and skills development. To find out more about these benefits, please read the Why Play Futsal? guide (Word, 47Kb).

OMYFL Futsal events

Through December and January the League will be running optional futsal games for teams across all age groups (alternatives to futsal during these months will be outdoor development or league games, though county cup may affect some teams in older age groups). Clubs will be asked in due course to confirm whether their teams want to play futsal, or outdoor games, or a mixture of both and a quick response would be appreciated to help with planning. The League will also be looking to run Futsal events during the season as follows:

•  Autumn Half-term Futsal event (22-23 and 29-30 October)

•  Pre-Christmas Futsal tournament (17-18 December)

•  New Year Futsal tournament (7-8 January)

•  Spring Half-term Futsal event (11-12 and 18-19 February)

All games will be played using the OMYFL Futsal Rules (Word, 53Kb), with referees that have done the Futsal referees course.
